A ChatGPT Enterprise alternative for companies that need API and agent access

ChatGPT Enterprise is a chat workspace for staff, sold per seat. If what your company actually needs is model access for agents, internal tools and developers, across more than one model family, a seat is the wrong unit: OpenAI bills API usage separately from the subscription, and the workspace offers OpenAI's models.

Standard Compute is one API for Claude, GPT, Gemini and open models, with a key and a fixed monthly budget for every person and app. Sign-in with Microsoft Entra ID, a Europe processing rule, zero data retention on request and a signed DPA come with it.

What you buyChatGPT Business / Enterprise: A ChatGPT workspace per user. Business: $20 per user a month billed annually ($25 monthly), from 2 users. Enterprise: price through OpenAI's sales team, billed annually.Standard Compute: API access per key, for a person or an app, on a flat monthly plan with a fixed budget that never overruns. Plans are on pricing.
API and agent usageChatGPT Business / Enterprise: Billed separately: OpenAI says API token prices are separate from subscription usage.Standard Compute: The key is the API. Agents, scripts, internal tools and coding agents all draw on the same budget.
ModelsChatGPT Business / Enterprise: OpenAI's models.Standard Compute: Claude, GPT, Gemini and open models such as GLM, DeepSeek, MiniMax and Kimi through one OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic-compatible API.
Usage limitsChatGPT Business / Enterprise: Standard Business seats get Codex usage measured in five-hour windows, and weekly limits may apply. Enterprise without flexible pricing has the same per-seat limits as Plus for most features; with flexible pricing, usage scales with credits.Standard Compute: No 5-hour or weekly windows. Each key runs until its monthly budget is used.
Cost per taskChatGPT Business / Enterprise: A price per seat, and Business and Enterprise can buy credits for more usage.Standard Compute: Each step goes to the cheapest model that can do it and the cheapest provider fast enough to serve it.
Single sign-onChatGPT Business / Enterprise: SAML SSO and MFA on Business. SCIM, role-based access control and domain verification on Enterprise.Standard Compute: Microsoft Entra ID or any SAML provider for the dashboard. Claude Desktop and Claude Code sign-in with a Microsoft work account, with access following Entra groups through SCIM.
Processing in EuropeChatGPT Business / Enterprise: Data residency controls on Enterprise. For the API, Europe residency is configured per project, needs approval from OpenAI's sales team and a modified retention amendment.Standard Compute: A Europe rule for the company, a team or a key. Every request, including retries and fallbacks, is served only by approved European inference endpoints.
Training and retentionChatGPT Business / Enterprise: No training on business data by default. Retention controls on Enterprise. API abuse-monitoring logs are kept for up to 30 days unless OpenAI approves zero data retention.Standard Compute: We never train on your prompts or outputs. Zero data retention can be required for the company, a team or a key, and lower levels can't switch it off.
RecordsChatGPT Business / Enterprise: Audit logs through the Compliance API on Enterprise.Standard Compute: An admin audit log with before and after values, and an export of every request with the model, serving provider and region rule, kept for 12 months.

What a company gets from an AI gateway instead of chat seats

Every model through one API

Run leading open models, including GLM, DeepSeek, MiniMax and Kimi, alongside Claude, GPT and Gemini through one API. Your code uses the OpenAI or Anthropic SDK it already has, pointed at a new base URL.

The cheapest model that can do each step

A single API gives you frontier and open-source models, and it routes each step to the cheapest model that can do it and the cheapest provider fast enough to serve it. Agents make many calls and most of them are routine, so most of them go to models priced for routine work.

A key and a budget per person and app

Organize your company into teams, invite colleagues by email, and give every person and every app its own key, all under one company account.

Every person and app gets a fixed monthly budget that never overruns, and you can set spending caps per key and for the whole company. Optional top-off from a prepaid company balance keeps critical agents running.

When each option fits

When ChatGPT Enterprise fits

You want a chat assistant for every employee, in a workspace OpenAI runs, with OpenAI's models and features. Most staff write, research and summarize in a browser, and few of them build agents or call an API. For that job, a ChatGPT seat is the right product.

When Standard Compute fits

Your developers and agents need model access through an API. You want Claude, GPT, Gemini and open models side by side, a budget for each app instead of a seat for each person, and controls a security reviewer can check: processing in Europe, provider and model allow-lists, an audit log and a signed DPA.

Using both

Many companies give staff a chat workspace and run their agents, internal tools and coding agents through a gateway. The two don't overlap: seats cover chat, keys cover everything that calls a model from code.

Moving API and agent traffic over

  1. Create a company workspace

    Create the company in the dashboard, invite colleagues by email and organize them into teams. Connect Microsoft Entra ID for sign-in.

  2. Create a key for each app and person

    Give every agent, internal tool and developer its own key with a monthly plan, the models it may use, and a Europe rule or zero data retention where your policy needs it.

  3. Change the base URL

    Point the OpenAI or Anthropic SDK at https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1 with the new key. The model name standardcompute routes each step; a full model name pins one model.

  4. Move coding agents

    Claude Code, Codex CLI and other coding agents connect the same way. See Claude Code for teams and the integration guides.

  5. Review spend and records

    Watch spend per key against its budget, and export the request record when your auditor asks for it.

Python, with the OpenAI SDK

from openai import OpenAI

client = OpenAI(
    base_url="https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1",
    api_key=STANDARD_COMPUTE_KEY,
)

# "standardcompute" routes each step to the
# cheapest model that can do it. To pin one:
# model="openai/gpt-6-astra" or "anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5"
client.chat.completions.create(
    model="standardcompute",
    messages=messages,
)

Common questions from IT and procurement

What is the best ChatGPT Enterprise alternative for API and agent use?
When the need is model access for agents and internal tools rather than a chat seat, an AI gateway such as Standard Compute gives you Claude, GPT, Gemini and open models through one API, with a key and a fixed monthly budget for every person and app.
Is API usage included in ChatGPT Enterprise?
No. OpenAI says API token prices are separate from subscription usage, so agents and scripts that call OpenAI's API are billed on top of ChatGPT seats.
Can we use Claude and open models as well as GPT?
Yes. Claude, GPT, Gemini and open models such as GLM, DeepSeek, MiniMax and Kimi run through one API, and you decide which models each key can use.
Is there a GDPR-friendly alternative to ChatGPT Enterprise for business?
With a Europe rule on your company, a team or a key, every request, including retries and fallbacks, is served only by approved European inference endpoints, and you sign our DPA in the dashboard: no training on your data, no retention of your content and breach notification within 72 hours.
Does Standard Compute train on our data?
Standard Compute never trains on your prompts or outputs, and with a region rule or zero retention turned on, every request goes only to providers that commit not to train on it.
Does Standard Compute support SSO with Microsoft Entra ID?
Standard Compute connects to Microsoft Entra ID or any SAML identity provider, so your people sign in with their work accounts while anyone on your verified domain joins your company automatically.
Is Standard Compute a chat app for employees?
Standard Compute is an AI gateway: it serves models to your agents, tools and coding agents through an API. If every employee needs a chat assistant, keep a chat workspace for that and route the API and agent traffic through Standard Compute.
How do we control AI spend across the company?
Every person and app gets its own key with a fixed monthly budget that never overruns, and you can set spending caps per key and for the whole company.
