Looking for an alternative to Together Link?
Together Link is Together AI's free beta CLI that runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Pi on Together's open models at per-token prices; Standard Compute puts Claude and GPT in the same flat plan as open models.
TL;DR
Stay on Together Link if open models at Together's rates cover your work. Switch if you want Claude and GPT on the same key, with a limit per key.
What Together Link offers
The CLI is free. Model use is pay-as-you-go on your Together API key at Together's per-token rates, for example GLM 5.3 at $1.40 in and $4.40 out per million tokens and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash at $0.30 and $1.20. Together requires a $15 minimum credit purchase. Opus requests in Auto mode are billed to your Anthropic account. (Verified 2026-10-13.)
- One command (togetherlink claude, tcodex, topencode) puts open models inside the agent you already use
- Free and MIT licensed, with no local proxy
- Together's fast serverless inference on strong open coding models
- Auto mode can route Claude Code between Opus 5.5 on your own Anthropic key and GLM 5.3
- A per-session tracker shows what you spent next to the same session on Opus 5.5
- Together claims it cuts coding agent spend by 50 to 80% compared with running every session on Opus 5.5
Why people look for an alternative
- Still in beta: Together says commands, routing behavior and the model list may change
- Auto mode reaches Claude only through your own Anthropic key and bill; Codex, OpenCode and Pi sessions always stay on Together's open models
- API keys have no spending limits of their own, and organization budgets are "planned features"
- Serverless endpoints offer no region selection, and Together stores prompts by default unless an admin turns storage off
- Runs on macOS or Linux
Which one fits your work
| Pick | When |
|---|---|
| Standard Compute | One key and one bill for Claude, GPT and open models, instead of a Together balance plus an Anthropic account |
| Codex and OpenCode can be routed to Claude and GPT models as well as open ones | |
| A plan or limit on every key, and requests that stop at the monthly budget | |
| Europe or US region rules on a key, team or company; works anywhere you can set a base URL, no launcher needed | |
| Together Link | You want open models only and pay-as-you-go prices at Together's rates |
| You already have a Together account and credits | |
| You want Claude Code's hard sessions on Opus with your own Anthropic key and the rest on GLM | |
| You want the open-source CLI and Together's inference speed |
Switching takes one config change
Standard Compute is OpenAI-compatible, so any tool or SDK that lets you set a custom base URL migrates in minutes:
Base URL = https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1 API key = your Standard Compute key Model = standardcompute
Setup guides for OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, Cursor, Cline, Aider and more are on the integrations page.
FAQ
What is Together Link?
A free, MIT-licensed command-line tool Together AI launched in beta on October 5, 2026. It configures Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, OpenCode and Pi to use Together's hosted gateway, so they run open models billed to your Together API key.
How does Together Link's Auto mode work?
Together's blog says it reads each session's first task and sends it to a model: Opus 5.5 or GLM 5.3 if you bring an Anthropic key, GLM 5.3 or GLM 5.3 Flash without one. Its docs describe the choice per request and say Codex, OpenCode and Pi sessions always stay on Together models.
Can I set a spending limit on Together Link?
Not per key. Together's docs say API keys do not support independent spending limits and organization budgets are planned; prepaid accounts get a hard cut-off at $0 that "does not guarantee an exact spending cap". On Standard Compute every key has a plan or limit, and requests stop at the monthly budget.
Is Together Link cheaper than Standard Compute?
For open models alone, often, at Together's per-token rates. Standard Compute is the better fit when part of the work needs Claude or GPT, because those are in the same plan budget and the router uses them only where they help.
