Tools that point Claude Code at other providers (ccproxy-style setups) can cut costs dramatically — and quietly replace the model. If a cheaper open model handled your work fine, an agent that supports custom providers natively (OpenCode, Pi, Hermes, Codex CLI) is the cleaner version of the same decision, without depending on an unsupported shim that Anthropic can break in any release.
