ClinePass limit reached: reset times and fixes
ClinePass limit reached You have reached your 5-hour Clinepass limit. The limit resets in 5h, please try again later.
You used up one of ClinePass's three quota windows (a rolling 5 hours, the calendar week or the calendar month). Wait for the reset the message shows, or click “Switch to Usage-Based billing” to keep going on the Cline provider at per-token prices. ClinePass ($9.99 a month) gives about 2 to 5 times standard API usage on 12 open-weight models, but Cline does not publish the size of each window, so you cannot plan a heavy day around a known number.
What causes it
- The rolling 5-hour window: one long Act-mode session with whole files in context spends it fastest.
- The weekly or monthly limit: these follow the calendar week and month, so steady daily use can exhaust them even when no single session is heavy.
- Usage counts at each model's reference per-token price, so larger models and longer contexts use the quota faster than short chats.
- A different message, “No access to ClinePass subscription models yet”, means the account has no active ClinePass subscription.
How to fix it
- Read the message: it names the window (5-hour, weekly or monthly) and the time to reset, for example “The limit resets in 7d”. Your usage is on the Subscription page of the Cline dashboard.
- Click “Switch to Usage-Based billing” on the error card and retry: requests then go through the Cline provider, billed per token. In the CLI, open
/modeland choose Cline, or rerun headless with--provider cline. - Bring another provider: in API Provider choose OpenAI Compatible, enter the base URL, API key and model ID, then Verify.
- Stretch the next window: mention specific files instead of folders, add build output and lockfiles to
.clineignore, and start a new task per feature.
Running an agent? Cline's Plan/Act loop re-sends the growing conversation on every step, so a 40-step task is 40 increasingly large requests against the same window.

Keep working on a fixed monthly plan
If ClinePass windows keep stopping you mid-task, Cline's OpenAI Compatible provider takes Standard Compute: base URL https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1, model standardcompute. Plans cost a fixed $19 to $249 a month for a set compute budget, with no 5-hour or weekly windows. Each key gets 300 to 2,000 requests a minute by plan, and at 100% of the budget new requests return HTTP 402 until renewal, with no overage charge. The catalog has Claude and GPT models next to open-weight ones. ClinePass costs less if light open-weight use fits inside its windows.
Plans from $19 a month with $20 of compute. Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute first, no card. Trial terms
FAQ
How big is the ClinePass quota?
Cline describes it as 2 to 5 times the usage you would get at standard API rates on popular open coding models, counted at reference per-token prices across a 5-hour, a weekly and a monthly window. It does not publish a dollar or token amount for any window.
When does the ClinePass limit reset?
The 5-hour window is rolling, so capacity frees up five hours after the usage that filled it. The weekly and monthly limits follow the calendar week and month. The error text tells you how long is left.
Is ClinePass the same as the Cline provider?
No. ClinePass is a separate subscription provider inside Cline. The Cline provider is usage-based and bills per token, which is why switching to it is the in-app way past a spent ClinePass window.
