Use Standard Compute with Crush

Charm's open-source terminal coding agent, configured with a crushrc file and open to any OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible provider. Paste three settings into Crush: the base URL, your Standard Compute API key and the model.

A crushrc is Bash with Crush builtins such as provider add and model add, so the key can stay in an environment variable instead of the file. In model add, only the first slash separates provider and model: standardcompute/anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5 pins one model.

Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute, with no card. See trial terms →

Where to set them in Crush

  1. Open ~/.config/crush/crushrc (create it if it doesn't exist). A ./.crushrc or ./crushrc in your project takes priority over it.
  2. Add the provider: provider add standardcompute --name "Standard Compute" --type openai-compat --base-url "https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1" --api-key "$STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY". Use openai-compat, not openai: Crush keeps openai for OpenAI's own API.
  3. Add the model: model add standardcompute/standardcompute --name "Standard Compute (routed)" --context-window 200000 --default-max-tokens 16000. Export STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY, start crush and press ctrl+l to pick it in the model picker.

What changes in Crush

Billing
Crush requests draw on one monthly compute budget, with plans from $19 a month. There is no per-token bill. When the budget is used, requests stop until renewal or an upgrade, unless you turn on pay as you go.
Models
The model standardcompute picks a frontier or an efficient model for each request. An exact model ID from the Models page pins one model instead.
Good to know
Crush runs on your own keys; Charm's Hyper inference service is optional. The older crush.json config format still loads but is deprecated in favor of crushrc. A crushrc runs as a full shell, so only keep one you trust in a project.
