Use Standard Compute with Docker Agent

Docker's open-source runtime for building and running agent teams from YAML or HCL, bundled with Docker Desktop, with named providers for any OpenAI-compatible API. Paste three settings into Docker Agent: the base URL, your Standard Compute API key and the model.

Docker Agent never picks a custom provider with model: auto, so reference it as provider/model. A provider with a base_url also bypasses any configured models gateway and authenticates with its own token_key.

Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute, with no card. See trial terms →

Your connection settings

Copy these values, then put them where Docker Agent expects them (steps below).

Base URL

https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1

API Key

Your Standard Compute key

Model

standardcompute

Where to set them in Docker Agent

  1. In your agent YAML (or ~/.config/cagent/config.yaml for every agent), add providers.standardcompute with base_url: https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1, token_key: STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY and api_type: openai_chatcompletions.
  2. Set an agent's model to standardcompute/standardcompute, or an exact ID such as standardcompute/anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5.
  3. Put STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY in your environment or ~/.config/cagent/.env and run docker agent run agent.yaml. docker agent setup → Custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint does the same interactively.

What changes in Docker Agent

Billing
Docker Agent requests draw on one monthly compute budget, with plans from $19 a month. There is no per-token bill. When the budget is used, requests stop until renewal or an upgrade, unless you turn on pay as you go.
Models
The model standardcompute picks a frontier or an efficient model for each request. An exact model ID from the Models page pins one model instead.
Good to know
Docker Agent is free and open source (Apache 2.0), included with Docker Desktop 4.63 and later. Built-in providers bill per token; a custom provider bills through that provider.
