Use Standard Compute with Factory Droid

Factory's coding agent for the terminal and desktop, with custom models declared in one settings file. Paste three settings into Droid: the base URL, your Standard Compute API key and the model.

Droid picks the API by provider: generic-chat-completion-api for Chat Completions, openai for the Responses API. Standard Compute serves both at https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1.

Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute, with no card. See trial terms →

Where to set them in Droid

  1. Open ~/.factory/settings.json and add an entry to the customModels array.
  2. Set model to standardcompute, baseUrl to https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1, apiKey to "${STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY}" and provider to generic-chat-completion-api.
  3. Export STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY, start droid, run /model and pick the model under Custom models.

What changes in Droid

Billing
Droid requests draw on one monthly compute budget, with plans from $19 a month. There is no per-token bill. When the budget is used, requests stop until renewal or an upgrade, unless you turn on pay as you go.
Models
The model standardcompute picks a frontier or an efficient model for each request. An exact model ID from the Models page pins one model instead.
Good to know
Factory's pricing page says bring-your-own-key use is free up to an allowance on its Individual plans (Pro is $20 a month) and is then charged according to your plan. Custom models work in the Droid CLI and desktop app, not Factory's web or mobile apps, and the key stays on your machine.
