Use Standard Compute with goose

The open-source AI agent from the Agentic AI Foundation at the Linux Foundation, with a desktop app, a CLI and MCP extensions. Paste three settings into goose: the base URL, your Standard Compute API key and the model.

As a file, the provider is ~/.config/goose/custom_providers/standardcompute.json with "engine": "openai", "base_url": "https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1", "api_key_env": "STANDARDCOMPUTE_API_KEY" and a models list holding standardcompute. Start it with GOOSE_PROVIDER=standardcompute GOOSE_MODEL=standardcompute.

Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute, with no card. See trial terms →

Copy these values, then put them where goose expects them (steps below).

Where to set them in goose

  1. Run goose configure and choose Custom Providers → Add A Custom Provider → OpenAI Compatible. In goose Desktop: Settings → Models → Configure providers → Add Custom Provider.
  2. Enter https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1 as the API URL, answer Yes to authentication and paste your Standard Compute key. goose stores it in the system keychain.
  3. Enter standardcompute under Available Models, keep streaming on, then select the new provider and model.

What changes in goose

Billing
goose requests draw on one monthly compute budget, with plans from $19 a month. There is no per-token bill. When the budget is used, requests stop until renewal or an upgrade, unless you turn on pay as you go.
Models
The model standardcompute picks a frontier or an efficient model for each request. An exact model ID from the Models page pins one model instead.
Good to know
goose is free and open source (Apache 2.0); you pay only for the model. Keys written into config.yaml are ignored, and a 401 that says No api key passed in usually means that. Model names that look like OpenAI's (gpt-5, gpt-6, o-series) go to /v1/responses, which Standard Compute also serves.
