Looking for an alternative to CodeRouter?
CodeRouter (coderouter.io) is a smart-routing API for coding agents with monthly plans counted in tokens; Standard Compute counts a dollar budget shared across every model and bills no overage.
TL;DR
Stay on CodeRouter if you'd rather be moved to cheaper models than stopped, or you think in tokens. Switch if you want a dollar budget across every model, region rules or workspaces for clients.
What CodeRouter offers
Starter $19 (2M tokens, 50K of them Opus), Solo $29 (5M), Pro $99 (30M), Studio $179 (50M), Team $299 (80M tokens, 50 keys). Overage is billed at provider list price plus 15%, up to a default monthly cap ($40 on Starter to $600 on Team). (Verified 2026-10-13.)
- Closest to Standard Compute's model: a monthly plan, automatic routing and Claude Code, Codex and Cline setups
- Classifies each request by phase (plan, implement, debug, small edit) and picks from 25 Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen and GLM models, over OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic Messages and Responses endpoints
- Opus tokens included on every paid plan
- Per-minute rate limits are published per plan, from 100 to 2,400 requests a minute
- Annual plans get two months free
Why people look for an alternative
- Quotas are token counts, with a separate, smaller Opus allowance
- Overage is billed automatically up to the cap, so a Starter month can reach $59
- You can't pin a model on the smart-routing plans
- The site names no company, team or location, and region selection is Enterprise only
Which one fits your work
| Pick | When |
|---|---|
| Standard Compute | A dollar compute budget usable on any model, with no separate Opus allowance to track |
| No automatic overage: requests stop at the budget, and a top-up happens only when you buy one | |
| You choose up to five models for the router to pick from, or keep the default lineup | |
| Europe or US region rules on any plan, and company and agency workspaces with a plan or limit per key | |
| CodeRouter | You'd rather be moved to cheaper models than stopped when the allowance runs out |
| Fixed token counts are easier for you to reason about than a dollar budget | |
| You want a no-card 2-day trial with 1M tokens | |
| A large team that fits CodeRouter's Team plan allowance of tokens and keys |
Switching takes one config change
Standard Compute is OpenAI-compatible, so any tool or SDK that lets you set a custom base URL migrates in minutes:
Base URL = https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1 API key = your Standard Compute key Model = standardcompute
Setup guides for OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, Cursor, Cline, Aider and more are on the integrations page.
FAQ
How is CodeRouter different from Standard Compute?
Both are monthly plans that route coding-agent requests across models automatically. CodeRouter counts tokens, with a smaller Opus allowance, and bills overage up to a monthly cap. Standard Compute gives a dollar compute budget usable on any model, and requests stop at it unless you buy a top-up.
What happens when CodeRouter's tokens run out?
Overage is billed at the provider's list price plus a markup until the plan's default cap. After the cap, CodeRouter's FAQ says it routes your remaining calls to cheaper models and does not block service.
Can I pin a model on CodeRouter?
On the smart-routing plans, CodeRouter's docs say explicit model names are rewritten to auto. Its pay-as-you-go Direct mode, at provider list price times 1.15, lets you call models directly. On Standard Compute you can pin one model or let the router pick among models you select.
Does CodeRouter work with Claude Code and Codex?
Yes. CodeRouter documents ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://www.coderouter.io/api/v1 for Claude Code and added a /v1/responses endpoint for Codex in May 2026. Standard Compute uses ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://api.stdcmpt.com for Claude Code and https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1 for Codex and OpenCode.
