Looking for an alternative to Devin?

Devin is Cognition's coding agent, sold on the same plans as Devin Desktop, the editor that used to be Windsurf, with quotas that refresh daily and weekly; Standard Compute is a cost-optimized API for the open agents you can point anywhere, where the router sends each step to the cheapest model that can do it on one monthly budget.

TL;DR

Stay on Devin if you want its cloud agent or the Devin Desktop editor and the quotas fit. Switch the agent work to an open agent on Standard Compute when unpublished daily and weekly quotas keep stopping you.

What Devin offers

Free $0 with a light quota; Pro $20 a month; Max $200 a month with "significantly higher quotas"; Teams $80 a month plus $40 per full dev seat, up to 200 users; Enterprise on request. Paid allowances refresh daily and weekly, and amounts are not published; extra usage is bought at API pricing. (Verified on devin.ai/pricing, 2026-11-07.)

  • Devin Cloud and the Devin Desktop editor in one plan, with Tab completions and inline edits
  • Cognition's own SWE-2 models next to Claude and GPT models
  • Team plans with per-seat quotas and a model allowlist for admins
  • A free tier to try the agent before paying

Why people look for an alternative

  • Quota amounts are not published, so you cannot plan a month around them
  • Daily and weekly refreshes stop long runs until the next window, unless you buy extra usage
  • The Devin Desktop docs document no custom base URL or own key for hosted models
  • Max costs ten times Pro without a published usage amount

Devin Pro vs Devin Max vs Standard Compute

Devin's plans cover the agent and the editor, with quotas that refresh daily and weekly. Standard Compute covers the model bill for open agents, with one published monthly budget and a router that keeps the cost per step down.

Which one fits your work

PickWhen
Standard ComputeOpen agents (Cline, Kilo Code, OpenCode, Claude Code, Codex CLI) that do the same multi-file work on a key you control
Always-on or long agent runs that would hit daily and weekly refreshes
Teams that need opt-in Europe or US rules per company, team or key, and no training on or storing of prompts
A published monthly budget instead of quotas you cannot see
DevinYou want Devin's autonomous cloud agent and its integrations
You like the Devin Desktop editor and its Tab completions
Your usage fits the Pro quota

Switching takes one config change

Standard Compute is OpenAI-compatible, so any tool or SDK that lets you set a custom base URL migrates in minutes:

Base URL = https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1
API key = your Standard Compute key
Model     = standardcompute

Setup guides for OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, Cursor, Cline, Aider and more are on the integrations page.

FAQ

What happened to Windsurf?

Cognition, the company behind Devin, relaunched the Windsurf editor as Devin Desktop, and windsurf.com now redirects to devin.ai/desktop. It is sold on the same plans as Devin.

What is the best Devin alternative?

An open agent on a cost-routed API, if what you want is control over the model bill. Cline or Kilo Code in VS Code, or OpenCode and Claude Code in the terminal, do the same multi-file work. On Standard Compute the router sends each step to the cheapest model that can do it, providers are vetted for price, uptime and speed with automatic fallback, and opt-in Europe or US rules apply per company, team or key. If you want an autonomous cloud agent with its own integrations, Devin is still the more complete product.

Can I use Standard Compute in Devin Desktop?

Not with a documented setup: the Devin Desktop docs list its own models and give no custom base URL or own-key option for them. Cline and Kilo Code, which run in VS Code-style editors, take a Standard Compute key in a few steps.

Is Devin or Standard Compute cheaper?

For light use, Devin Pro is cheap and includes the editor. For heavy agent work, compare published amounts: Devin does not publish its quotas, while Standard Compute plans cost $19 to $249 a month for a fixed compute budget, and the router keeps the cost per step down by sending routine steps to cheaper models.
