Claude Code “/limit-reset” and “/low-priority”: how they work, and fixes
⚠ /limit-reset to reset your session limit now · uses weekly limit · 1/week ⚠ /low-priority to continue now at lower priority · uses your weekly limit
Both appear when Claude Code reaches your 5-hour session limit on a Pro or Max plan, and both spend your weekly limit: /limit-reset refills the session window once a week, and /low-priority keeps you working on spare capacity, which can pause while it waits. They are being rolled out to some accounts and are not in Anthropic's documentation yet; separately, Anthropic gives eligible plans an occasional saved limit reset that you redeem in Settings → Usage → Resets.
What causes it
- The 5-hour session limit is reached. On accounts where the commands are enabled, the limit notice offers them as ways to keep going.
/limit-resetrefills the session window at most once a week. The usage it unlocks still counts toward the weekly limit, and afterwards Claude Code shows “Session limit reset · next reset available {date} · your weekly limit still applies”./low-priorityruns your requests on spare capacity (“Working at lower priority · waiting for capacity”). It draws on the weekly limit plus a separate weekly lower-priority allowance, and run again it turns off.- “/limit-reset isn't available in this environment” comes from non-interactive runs such as
claude -por the SDK, because the command opens an interactive panel. - “A session-limit reset isn't available right now” appears on some accounts that never used one (anthropics/claude-code issue #95810), which points to a staged rollout.
How to fix it
- Run
/usageto see the session and weekly windows and when each resets, before spending either. - Use
/limit-resetwhen you need the session window now and have weekly room left; it is available once a week. - Use
/low-priorityfor work that can wait. Watch/usagewhile it runs: one user reported it used almost a week of usage in a couple of hours (issue #92544). - Look for a saved reset in Settings → Usage → Resets on claude.ai or the desktop app. It refills your session or weekly limit at once, keeps your weekly reset day, and is lost if you downgrade or cancel before using it.
- Turn on usage credits (
/usage-credits) to keep working past the limits at API rates, up to a monthly spend limit you set. - If you see “isn't available in this environment”, run
/limit-resetin the interactive terminal, or redeem a saved reset on claude.ai instead.
Running an agent? Long agentic sessions hit the 5-hour window first, and both commands move that usage onto the weekly limit. Spending a reset on Monday can leave the end of the week short.

Keep working on a fixed monthly plan
If you are spending resets and low-priority hours every week, Claude Code can run on Standard Compute instead: run standardcompute launch claude, or set ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://api.stdcmpt.com (no /v1), your key in ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN and a catalog model ID in ANTHROPIC_MODEL. Plans cost a fixed $19 to $249 a month for a set compute budget, with no 5-hour or weekly windows. Each key gets 300 to 2,000 requests a minute by plan, and at 100% of the budget new requests return HTTP 402 until renewal, with no overage charge. It does not include a Claude subscription; unset the variables to go back to your plan.
Plans from $19 a month with $20 of compute. Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute first, no card. Trial terms
FAQ
Does /limit-reset give me more usage?
Only inside the week. It refills the 5-hour session window early, and everything you use after it still counts toward your weekly limit.
Is a saved limit reset the same as /limit-reset?
No. A saved reset is an occasional grant from Anthropic (subscribers got one with the Opus 5.5 launch on September 22, 2026) that you redeem in Settings → Usage. /limit-reset is a weekly session refill offered in Claude Code on some accounts.
Why don't I see /limit-reset or /low-priority?
They are switched on for some accounts only and are not documented yet. Everyone on an eligible plan can still use /usage, saved resets in Settings → Usage, and usage credits.
