Claude Pro and Max plans carry weekly usage caps on top of the 5-hour session window. The weekly cap resets on a rolling seven-day schedule from when your usage started, and the limit notice shows your exact reset time. It cannot be reset early — the practical options are upgrading the tier, switching heavy work to API billing, or moving volume work to an unmetered agent setup.

  1. Check the exact reset time in the limit notice — weekly caps are rolling, so it reflects when your usage accrued, and there is no way to reset it early.
  2. Upgrade the plan tier: Max raises weekly caps substantially over Pro.
  3. Switch Claude Code to API billing for the remainder of the week (pay-per-token, no plan caps).
  4. Shift volume work to an agent that isn't plan-metered and save the plan budget for the hard problems.

If you hit the weekly cap regularly, it's almost always agentic volume, not chat. Moving even one recurring bulk task off the metered plan often keeps the rest of the week under the cap.

Can I reset my Claude weekly limit early?

No. The weekly cap is rolling and resets exactly when the notice says. Neither logging out, changing devices, nor reinstalling changes it — usage is tracked on the account.

Does upgrading mid-week unlock usage immediately?

Upgrading to a higher tier raises the caps, and the new headroom applies to your current window — for many users that unblocks work immediately.

Do API keys share the weekly limit?

No — API billing is metered separately per token, with rate limits but no plan-style weekly cap. That's why switching heavy runs to API billing (or an unmetered flat-rate agent setup) works as an overflow valve.
