Use Standard Compute with GitHub Copilot
GitHub's coding assistant: chat and agent mode in VS Code, plus Copilot CLI in the terminal. Paste three settings into Copilot: the base URL, your Standard Compute API key and the model.
VS Code's docs say bring-your-own-key models work without signing in to GitHub and without a Copilot plan. Copilot CLI reads its provider from COPILOT_PROVIDER_* environment variables and needs models with tool calling and streaming.
Eligible new accounts can try $0.25 of compute, with no card. See trial terms →

Copy these values, then put them where Copilot expects them (steps below).

Your Standard Compute keyModel
standardcomputeWhere to set them in Copilot
- VS Code: open the model picker, choose Manage Language Models → Add Models → Custom Endpoint, and in chatLanguageModels.json set the model url to https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1/chat/completions, id to standardcompute and toolCalling to true.
- Copilot CLI: export COPILOT_PROVIDER_BASE_URL=https://api.stdcmpt.com/v1, COPILOT_PROVIDER_API_KEY with your key and COPILOT_MODEL=standardcompute, then run copilot.
- Pick Standard Compute in the chat model picker and send one agent task. It appears under Logs in the Standard Compute dashboard.
