How much does Opper cost?
Opper charges provider cost for tokens plus a fee when you buy credits: 3% on Gateway, 5.5% on Control Plane, which adds budgets and roles, and custom on Enterprise. There is no subscription and no minimum spend. Standard Compute is the flat-price alternative, from $19 a month with the compute included.

A coding-agent month through Opper
Opper's 3% is below Requesty's 5% and OpenRouter's 5.5%, so in a typical month it beats a flat plan pinned to the same model. Its routing rules order the providers behind a model by price or speed; choosing a cheaper model for routine steps takes a dynamic route you build, with branches or a classifier node.
| Month of coding-agent use | Gateway (3%) | Control Plane (5.5%) | Standard Compute plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical days, Claude Sonnet 5.5 | $73 | $74 | Standard, $89 ($95 budget) |
| Typical days, Claude Opus 5.5 | $145 | $149 | Pro, $249 ($269 budget) |
| Busy days, Claude Sonnet 5.5 | $597 | $611 | Pro Plus, $499 ($549 budget) |
| Busy days, Claude Opus 5.5 | $1,194 | $1,223 | Growth, $999 ($1,119 budget) |
Typical and busy are the median and 90th-percentile coding-agent day in our Agent Burn Index (September 13 to October 12, 2026; Claude Code and Codex not in the sample), over 20 working days. Standard Compute plans stop at their budget; routing routine steps to efficient models makes it last longer.
Budgets on Control Plane
- One organization budget a month, plus optional caps per project that count toward it. The pricing page also lists caps per role, user and key; the spend docs describe organization and project caps.
- Opper's docs: "The call that reaches or crosses the limit completes. Opper blocks the next call with HTTP 402".
- Adding credit doesn't clear a budget block, and the "warn at" level changes an indicator colour without sending a notification.
- On Gateway, the only cap is the prepaid balance.
The catch
A low fee on an open-ended balance is still open-ended. Opper bills every step of an agent session at the model's price, so the bill tracks how long your agents run, unless you build routes that send routine steps to cheaper models.
Where Standard Compute fits
Standard Compute works like Opper on the API side and closes the open end: a plan from $19 a month with the compute included, a router that picks a cheaper model for routine steps without a route graph, and a limit on every key. If the gateway itself must be hosted in the EU with ISO 27001 and no prompt storage, pick Opper.
FAQ
Does Opper charge a markup on tokens?
No. Token rates pass through at provider cost; Opper's fee is charged when you buy credits: 3% on Gateway and 5.5% on Control Plane.
Is Opper free?
Signing up needs no card, and free models work in the playground and API. Paid models need prepaid credits, and there is no minimum spend.
Does Opper have a subscription?
No. All three plans are pay-as-you-go credits; they differ in the fee on purchases and in governance features.
Where is Opper hosted?
In AWS Stockholm, with a second production environment at evroc in Stockholm. Opper holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and says it has no SOC 2 report.
Does Opper pick the model for me?
Not by default. Routing rules order the providers behind a model, and dynamic routes, graphs you build, can choose the model per request with branches or a classifier.
