What changed in AI coding plans in October 2026?

The biggest changes are OpenAI's smaller Codex allowance for new Pro 200 subscribers (September 29), Cursor closing its $20 Pro plan to new signups (October 12) and DevPass cutting included usage from 3x to 2x the plan price (October 15). On Cursor's new plans, Claude, GPT and Gemini now cost API list price on top of the subscription.

Dates are when a change takes effect; the October 14, 15 and 19 rows had not started on October 13, when every row was checked on the vendor's own page. Checked with no plan change since September 15: Featherless, Copilot's individual plans, Claude Pro, Z.ai GLM Coding Plan, Kilo Pass, Augment Code and Warp.

OpenAI Pro plans

All three Pro plans ($100, $200 and $500) have no five-hour Codex limit, only a weekly one, and Pro 500 alone gets Ultrafast mode. OpenAI has not published the new Pro 200 allowance; emails subscribers have posted put it at 10x Plus, down from 20x. If your Pro 200 started before September 29, check Settings → Usage after October 29, and drop to Pro 100 if you rarely ran out. GPT-5.5 leaves Codex on October 14, so change any config that still names it. More in Codex usage limits by plan.

Cursor's new plans

Cursor sells the new plans as The X Subscription, a bundle of Cursor, Grok, Grok Bot and X Premium. Usage resets weekly instead of monthly, and Cursor says each plan includes at least twice the Grok coding usage of the comparable old plan. Other models are paid through top-ups at API list price, so a Premium user who mostly runs Claude can pay more than the old $20 Pro. If that is you, keep your current plan: a lapsed Pro plan can't be restarted. Plan-by-plan detail is in Cursor pricing after Pro, and the announcement is on Cursor's forum.

DevPass from October 15

Prices stay the same and the allowance drops by a third. The premium weekly cap tightens to 10%, 12% or 15% of the allowance, Pro loses its free Reset Pass, and the licence now covers interactive coding in an approved coding tool only, which rules out scripts and bots. Compare your heaviest day with the 24-hour cap before your renewal.

PlanUntil Oct 14From Oct 1524-hour cap
Lite $29$87$588%
Pro $79$237$1589%
Max $179$537$35810%

Included usage per month at provider rates. The 24-hour cap is a share of the monthly allowance across all models.

The DevPass change and your options

Claude Max and Team API credits

Max 5x gets $100 a month and Max 20x $200; Team adds $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled up to $500. New subscribers can claim after seven days, and unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. They pay for the Claude API, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK, but not for interactive Claude Code. Claim them in Settings and point a script or bot you already pay API rates for at them. Plans compared in Claude Code pricing.

OpenCode Go Plus

Go Plus raises each model's monthly dollar limit two to eight times over Go's: Kimi K3 goes from $15 to $60, GLM-5.3 from $15 to $120. Both plans still allow 20% of a model's monthly limit per five hours and 50% per week. If one model keeps running out on Go, look up its Go Plus limit before paying four times as much, since some only double. OpenCode shipped the plan on September 28 (pull request); costs are compared in OpenCode pricing.

MiniMax M Plan

M Plan's Go, Explore and Build tiers cost $22, $55 and $132 a month, the same as Token Plan, with the same text usage limits; Explore and Build add the H3 video model. Token Plan subscribers keep their plan only while auto-renew stays on, and switching to M Plan is one-way. From October 19, plan requests to M2.5 and M2.7 run on M3.1 Flash Preview, so test it on your own work before then.

Gemini Code Assist

Google stopped selling Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise on October 9. Existing subscriptions keep renewing through the rest of 2026, and auto-renewal ends in 2027. Google points teams to Antigravity through Gemini Enterprise, so plan the move before your 2027 renewal date.

ClinePass models

ClinePass stays $9.99 a month but dropped GLM-5.2, Kimi K2.6, Kimi K2.7 Code and DeepSeek V4 Flash on September 24, citing capacity. Cline suggests DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, GLM-5.3 or Kimi K3 instead; update any config that names a removed model. The current lineup and limits are in what ClinePass includes.

Copilot Business seats

Since October 1, existing Business and Enterprise customers who pay by card or PayPal are charged for each seat before the user gets access, as new customers have been since September 1. Copilot's individual plans are covered in Copilot AI credits.

The catch

Four of these changes give you less for the same price or charge more for the same use: new Pro 200 subscriptions, DevPass, ClinePass's model list, and Cursor for anyone who mostly runs Claude or GPT. Recheck your plan's usage page after each one takes effect.

Where Standard Compute fits

Standard Compute plans start at $19 a month with a fixed monthly compute budget for OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic-compatible coding agents. Requests stop when the budget is used, with no overage charges and no five-hour or weekly windows. The budget is finite: frontier-model work uses it faster than routine work, and smart routing sends simple steps to efficient models so it lasts longer.

FAQ

Did Cursor raise its prices?

For new signups, the cheapest plan with Claude and GPT went from Pro at $20 to Premium at $30, and those models now cost API list price on top. Current Pro subscribers keep $20 for now.

Which AI coding plan changes take effect later in October?

GPT-5.5 retires from Codex on October 14, DevPass moves to 2x on October 15, MiniMax reroutes M2.5 and M2.7 on October 19, and the old Pro 200 allowance ends after October 29.

Did Featherless, Copilot or Claude Pro change their plans?

Not since September 15. Featherless's $25 Chat plan has excluded coding agents and API traffic since at least August 24, 2026; agents need the Developer plan from $50 a month, billed per token. Copilot's $100 Max plan dates from June 1, 2026. Claude Pro's price and limits are unchanged.

How often is this page updated?

Whenever a vendor changes a coding plan's price or limits. The date at the top is the last check, and every row links to the vendor's own page.
